Does your company’s Strategic Plan have what it takes to win in the future?
Scenario Planning is a process that explores the consequences of trends and organizes uncertainty so that decision-makers and their teams can anticipate and exploit disruptive developments for competitive advantage and strategic realignment. Scenario planning improves strategic conversations and results in real option generation and improved decision-making. The result: A more dynamic, robust and outcome-based Strategic Plan.
Practiced in over half of Fortune 500 companies, scenario planning is often an organization’s most guarded secret because they embody the assumptions that strategic moves are based upon and the vision that the leaders are working to realize. Scenario planning can help an organization anticipate changes and develop action plans in order to proactively influence the changes or alter the course on a moment’s notice.
Scenarios developed within this planning process support decision makers with better insight, clarity, planning and confidence. The scenario building, planning and deployment process enables the extraction of agile, robust and resilient strategies that are relevant today and will serve to position the organization for future prosperity.
Ideally, Scenario Planning is a process which should be aligned to your Strategic Planning Process and be revisited to fit developing circumstances. Changes in local or world events, government regulation, significant competition or consumer preferences will have significant effects on any business and may occur at any time. When integrated into your organization’s strategic processes, allows decision-makers to quickly and effectively react and better plan for rapidly changing environments.
How do you begin to incorporate Scenario Planning?
Scenario planning (in the American tradition) is undertaken in a facilitated workshop setting. Scenario Planning workshops follow a process to explore the consequences of trends & organize uncertainty so that decision-makers and their teams can anticipate and exploit disruptive developments for competitive advantage and strategic realignment.
Initially, introductory sessions are offered as one or two-day workshops. The minimum participation threshold that the organization must mobilize to enable a successful scenario workshop is six (6) participants. The workshops are led by Matthew Spaniol of Trends & Scenario Group. Based in Copenhagen, the Trends & Scenario Group operates worldwide.
